Average and range of puppies?

By admin · Friday, March 12th, 2010

I’m really curious!!! What is the average amount of shetland sheepdog puppies from one litter? What is the range of puppies for a shetland sheepdog (1 litter)? I’m NOT breeding

I have personally seen sheltie litters from a single pup to 12 puppies, all born alive and surviving to adulthood. I have heard from a reliable aquaintence in the breed of a litter of 14, but one didn’t make it past the night. The average is 5. These are statistics from litters from tested, conformationally correct parents.

If the dog weighs around 100 pounds they can have over 10 puppies easy. I dont know the specifics of a shetland though.

price of pups are estimated at £650 and they can have between 7 and 9 puppies sometimes more sometimes less depends on the individual dog and it ancestors breed history.
