I have a chihuahua/pug mix female. Do you think a mini sheltie male is 2 large for the female to have babies?
I have a picture of the chihuahua/pug mix,if you want to see her.
I didn’t want her to have these babies. It was an accident. She made her excape and was out of my site for 5 mins. I go to find her hooked up with a mini sheltie. She is going to go to the vet her in a few days. I was just hoping someone had some insite.
I don’t want to come across as rude, but may i please ask why you would want to cross breed these dogs? Our shelters are filled to overflowing with mixed breed dogs, and no shortage of pure breeds, either.
In answer to you question, i would say that, yes, she is too small to stand a sheltie on her.
Seriously, and with all due respect, dog breeding should be left to those who do it out of love for the breed with their eye toward either preserving or improving the breed.

Yes, and why are you breeding them? You don’t know what kind of genetic disorders or STDs that can be passed on from breeding unresponsibly. But if you must, do not go with a large male to a small female like that because you will end up with a cesarian section. The puppies will be too big.

I would love to see your pic, as I had one and seriously looked in to developing the mix as a breed. I found out it would take a minimum of 27 years of meticulous breeding and record keeping and breeders in 21 Sates…Gave up.
If your girl is about 11 pounds, as mine was, and the Sheltie is 25 pounds, he is too big…If she has been bred by this dog she needs to be aborted/spayed, rather than risk her life in delivery.

First, and you have probably thought of this already, I would make absolutely sure that all the puppies she has are wanted.
Secondly, it is always best that the mother actually be bigger than the father. This way there is little chance the mother will have problems giving birth due to puppy size.
Check the weight of each parent is a good rule of thumb.

TO ANSWER THE QUESTION YES. LARGER STUD DOGS WILL CREATE LARGE PUPS AND INJURE THE FEMALE AT BIRTH. AND I AM GOING TO BEG YOU NOT TO BREED HER AT ALL. THERE ARE MILLIONS OF UNWANTED MIXES BEING KILLED IN THIS COUNTRY EVERY MONTH!! YES MONTH!KILLED! UNWANTED! PLEASE RECONCIDER, AND HAVE HER FIXED. GOOD LUCK TO YOU,

1. No such thing as a "mini Sheltie". A Sheltie is a Sheltie. Although Sheltie sizes vary (especially when poorly bred), the genetic tendency is to produce larger, rather than smaller.
2. It is not uncommon for normal-sized Shelties to produce oversized offspring in this breed. If you value your little female’s life, you will not take that risk.
3. I would love to hear a rational explanation as to why someone would purposely want to breed their mixed breed to yet another breed. Plenty of love-deserving mutts die in shelters every day. Why make more on purpose?
I’m sorry if I come off as rude, but this question just blows my mind.
