the rescue is claiming she’s just a large sheltie. She weighs almost 50albs though, shelties do not get that big do they? I thought they were like 20lbs and the collies were closer to 50lb. Does she just look overweight?
It normally wouldn’t matter but I have weight restrictions. If she’s overweight, I can bring her ohme. If she’s not overweight and is at a healthy weight for her, I can’t.

It’s a difference of 5lbs but I’m pushing it with managment as it is. I don’t want to temp fate.

Shorter face, I would say Sheltie. Collies have those longggg snouts!

I think she’s a collie, sheltie’s are usually smaller, she’s very pretty though!

She’s a sheltie. :)

Note the difference in the face and snout of a sheltie vs. collie.

Sheltie, and she may be overweight.

Collies have slightly thinner sleeker hair (besides being larger) and don’t have the puffy fur shelties do.

That one right foot looks strange. If you do get her, keep an eye on the foot.

the rescue might have had just a mixup shes a healthy sheltie!

looks sheltie to me, we got our sheltie from my uncle which i have no clue where he got his from, but his shelties were fairly large.

look at the differences in their face shape. your dog looks more like the first pic. she’s cute btw!

She’s a Sheltie.. Not everyone breeds to the standard, so you are bound to see them larger and smaller than they are supposed to be.
She does look like she is a bit chunky

I thought collie at first, but looking back, she seems like a good sized sheltie.

She is a sheltie. While the 2 breeds look similar there are differences beside size. I have seen tiny shelties under 15lb to over 50lb. Their heads & builds are different. No doubt to me - sheltie.

She is definitely a sheltie. Collies are much larger (65 to 75lbs) and have longer faces/muzzles.
She might be a bit over weight.

That is an over sized Sheltie.Collies have a different - looking face and longer legs. It’s hard to tell if she is really fat because of her heavy coat, but she looks like a nice dog regardless of her size.

She looks more like a largeish, overweight sheltie to me. As someone else pointed out, not all breeders are producing animals that fit the ’show’ breed standards, so she could be a large sheltie or a small collie (modern collies have really distinctive faces, though, and she doesn’t look like them).

Does it really matter? If she’s a good dog, she’s a good dog.

A really chunky Sheltie. lol. She’s really pretty though.

She looks like a sheltie too me. My sheltie that passed away 2 years ago weighed about 35 lbs. She was not overweight, just larger then normal. The one that I have now is more the normal size. He weighs about 20 lbs. and is shorter. Collies normally have a long snout. (She is sweet.)

She is a large Sheltie, not a Collie. Some Shelties are a LOT bigger than breed standard. This dog looks to be quite heavy in the picture too.

She is a sheltie. I know shelties are supposed to weigh 23 lbs, but I have bought several from several different states, and mine average between 30 and 35 pounds. I have never seen a 23 lb sheltie. My largest sheltie is 43.3 pounds. If you can feel her ribs, then you will know if she is really that size. I would think she could easily loose 5 pounds. Can you have an r-ray or blood work up done? Shelties are prone to cancer, so she might have a tumor you are not aware of. She looks old, and I am wondering why her leg is turned sideways. I would hope you have a way to make sure she has a clean bill of health. Good luck

yes, she’s a sheltie and yes, she’s overweight. Modern collies don’t have that much stop on their heads (the definition between the muzzle and the top of the head) and the muzzle and head for a collie tends to be more elongated. I also had a very large sheltie probably close to 50 lbs. The problem with shelties is that you can regularly get dogs that are 13lbs and dogs that are 40 lbs coming out of the same litter - especially with outcrosses. and you can get larger or smaller than that add in a few extra pounds and you have yourself a 50lbs sheltie. That dog looks like it needs at least a good 5lbs off of her. Keep in mind that with an apartment or condo, shelties tend to be barkers. They love to hear the sound of their own voice so it could be problematic in areas where you have nearby neighbors that could complain.
Also, she seems to be a bit older and being overweight she could have thyroid issues. I’d have her checked out if you get her since that can be a reason for dogs gaining a lot of weight - especially shelties.
