My Dog is 12 years old and recently his back legs are shaking like adults do when on a nerve.?

By admin · Saturday, March 20th, 2010

He is a cross between a sheltie and we are not sure what as he was a rescue dog at 6 weeks old.
Do you think he should see a vet.

My dog is 10. his legs shake all the time. its when he has been laying down on the leg which catches a nerve. if you are really worried go to the vet just in case. but it is common in older dogs. it doesnt matter what breed he is really. hope this helps x

At 12 years old this is quite common. Take him to a vet and get him properly checked over, it could be his age, he might be in pain, or hopefully it’s something simple that the vet will be able to solve. Good luck with your doggy.

Most definitely to a vet. Recently had the same problem. My vet did blood work and my dog checked out okay. It kept getting worse so we went back as my dog was now drinking enormous amounts of water and urinating. It was as if the water just passed right on through. The vet checked my dogs skin and he was dehydrated so he did another blood test and his blood sugar level was extremely high…diabetes. We had dealt with congestive heart failure, colitis, a liver problem and were doing okay but diabetes was the last straw. Poor baby was really ill so he was put down. It would have been very cruel to keep that poor little animal going for 3-4 more months. I truly hope yours is not the same as mine was but it is best to be checked and rechecked. Good luck!

Yes pop him to the vets, horses can get a similar thing called shivers, it can be treated, not cured and your dog will be more comfortable!

Yeah….sadly this could be the onset of arthritis. The vet will give him something to ease the pain…..he could still have a few years in him yet, so best to releive the pain now!
